Which Online Engineering Bachelor’s Degrees Are ABET-Accredited?

ABET accredits programs, not whole universities. It also notes that a number of its accredited programs are offered in an online format. In our records, every one of the 7 online bachelor’s programs lists ABET accreditation from the Engineering Accreditation Commission.

Mechanical engineering has 3 online bachelor’s programs and electrical engineering has 4. Pick the discipline first, then compare lab rules and cost.

Online bachelor’s programs by engineering discipline
General Engineering: 0 of 85 bachelor's programs have an online route. Mechanical Engineering: 3 of 116 bachelor's programs have an online route. If you want an online route, start with the mechanical engineering rankings or the electrical engineering rankings. If you want an online master’s instead, the online general engineering master’s ranking and the online electrical engineering master’s ranking cover the options.

Do Online Engineering Degrees Require Labs on Campus?

Some do, and the details decide whether online study works for you. Each of the 7 programs handles labs differently, so read the lab rules before you apply.

  • North Dakota, mechanical: ordinarily 4 campus days for Student Design, 4 for Manufacturing Processes Laboratory and 5 for Mechanical Measurements Laboratory. It is not a fully remote degree.
  • North Dakota, electrical: labs use remote kits and require no campus visits. Online students can take chemistry and physics labs through North Dakota or seek approval for local equivalents.
  • Mississippi State, electrical: you buy equipment and run experiments at home. Mississippi State does not teach 13 required credits online, so you transfer them in from elsewhere.
  • Oregon State, electrical and computer: the online route uses lab kits, and upper-level courses roll out in stages: 300-level in 2026–27 and 400-level in 2027–28.
  • Oregon State, mechanical: the online degree requires the Computational Engineering option. Other mechanical options on the Corvallis campus are not online choices.
  • ASU Online, mechanical and electrical: both are fully online, with a two-semester senior design sequence.

How Much Does an Online Engineering Degree Cost Per Credit?

Online bachelor’s programs that publish a per-credit rate charge $477 to $623.99. Oregon State bills by quarter credit, so its $480 rate buys less than a semester credit. At 180 quarter credits, Oregon State’s tuition rate alone comes to $86,400. At 128 credits, North Dakota’s online mechanical degree comes to $79,870.72 in tuition, and the 126-credit electrical degree comes to $78,622.74.

Those totals multiply the published rate by the degree’s credit count. They leave out fees, books, travel to campus and any credits you transfer in. North Dakota adds $79.59 per credit in student fees, for example. Mississippi State’s $477 rate applies at 1 to 11 credits.

Published online tuition per credit, bachelor’s and master’s programs
Arkansas master’s: $393 per credit. Mississippi State EE bachelor’s: $477 per credit. Oregon State ME bachelor’s: $480 per quarter credit. North Dakota ME bachelor’s: $623.99 per semester credit. North Dakota EE bachelor’s: $623.99 per semester credit. Oregon Tech master’s: $722 per quarter credit. Minnesota Duluth master’s: $778.30 per credit. UW–Platteville master’s: $804.06 per credit. Auburn master’s: $949 per credit. UC Riverside master’s: $1,011 per quarter unit. Purdue master’s: $1,139 per credit. UConn master’s: $1,300 per credit. Arkansas $393 Mississippi State EE $477 Oregon State ME $480 North Dakota ME $623.99 North Dakota EE $623.99 Oregon Tech $722 Minnesota Duluth $778.30 UW–Platteville $804.06 Auburn $949 UC Riverside $1,011 Purdue $1,139 UConn $1,300 Bachelor’s (n=4) Master’s (n=8)

Oregon State and Oregon Tech charge per quarter credit, and UC Riverside charges per quarter unit. All others are per semester credit or per credit.

Online master’s tuition is higher and more spread out than online bachelor’s tuition. The master’s rates range from $393 at Arkansas, which includes its distance fees, to $1,300 at UConn, which is a comprehensive program fee. The median of the 8 is $876.53.

What Online ABET-Accredited Engineering Degrees Mean for You

If you want to become a licensed professional engineer, accreditation is the first thing to check. NCEES says licensing boards generally require a bachelor’s degree from an EAC/ABET-accredited program, and that many states provide additional paths. Your state board has the final word.

So an online engineering degree that is not ABET-accredited can close doors you may want later. The 7 programs here all list accreditation, but confirm the exact program and delivery route in ABET’s accredited program search before you enroll.

Be honest with yourself about the lab piece. Take-home kits suit a self-directed learner with a quiet table. A schedule of campus lab days needs travel money and time off work. Ask each program which labs are remote and which are not.

Finally, check the admissions bar. ASU Online and Oregon State both require calculus readiness or an engineering admission threshold beyond general university entry. Transfer credits can shorten the road, but each program limits what it accepts. Our engineering accreditation guide and engineering degree cost guide walk through both checks.

How We Counted Online and ABET Engineering Programs

  • Data: 585 program reviews on this site, pulled October 6, 2026. They cover general, mechanical and electrical engineering: 303 bachelor’s, 141 master’s and 141 doctoral programs. Source checks in the records run from September 5 to September 6, 2026.
  • Scope: This is our review set, not every engineering program in the country. Civil, chemical and other disciplines are not included. Percentages describe this set only.
  • Online route: a program counts when its recorded delivery format says online, distance or remote study. A program with “some online or blended coursework” on a campus degree, such as Northern Arizona, does not count. Two campus programs mention an online option in their review text without the online route being reviewed, so they are not counted.
  • Fully online: the recorded format is online only, or online with a campus residency. Programs offered “on campus or online” are counted as online routes but not as fully online.
  • ABET status: read from each bachelor’s program’s accreditation field, which cites the school’s own statement. ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission accredits bachelor’s and master’s engineering programs, so we report it for bachelor’s programs, where licensure depends on it. Programs with no accreditation statement in the record are not counted as accredited.
  • Per-credit rates: only rates a school publishes for its online route, checked in each program’s tuition record. Totals multiply the rate by the credit count and exclude fees.
  • External facts: the NCEES licensure statement and the ABET online-programs statement, both checked October 6, 2026.
