Its advanced-course requirements are larger than those of the thesis route, including twelve departmental credits and twelve credits at the six-thousand level or above. It also retains mathematics, continuing seminar attendance and a project chosen with the MS committee.
The department describes three possible experiential formats. A graduate design-build course uses a team project across two consecutive semesters. A faculty-supervised engineering research experience typically takes one semester. An engineering internship occupies a full academic period, such as summer, outside the university. These are options for an approved academic plan; the department’s description does not promise an internship placement or make every external job eligible.

Beginning in autumn twenty-twenty-six, the university minimum stipend for a half-time appointment is $2,897 per month. That rate applies to an awarded position and is not an MS admission guarantee.
Qualifying half-time appointments in both autumn and spring can provide fee authorization for the immediately following summer without a summer appointment, subject to enrollment rules. This benefit cannot simply be saved for another year and does not establish summer salary.
