Washington State’s mechanical department takes a different approach. Its coordinated concentrations include Thermo-fluids, Manufacturing and Autonomous Systems, but the department says those concentrations are not printed on degrees or transcripts. If documenting your direction matters, ask how to describe the relevant courses and project work accurately. Do not treat a coordinated elective plan as a separately awarded mechanical credential.

At Gonzaga, required mechatronics, manufacturing and thermal-fluids laboratories precede the senior project. Compare a laboratory assignment and a final project from each school you are considering. Ask for a term-by-term schedule that shows prerequisite dependencies, laboratories and senior design, rather than relying on the number of credits accepted.
Put quarter and semester prices on the same footing
UW’s BSME uses quarter credits; WSU and Gonzaga use semester plans. The numerical degree totals therefore do not provide a direct comparison of workload. Use the same academic period when comparing cost as well. UW and WSU publish annual university tuition-and-fee estimates, while Gonzaga’s billing page lists tuition by semester and separately identifies its SEAS program fee.
UW begins its undergraduate Engineering enhancement fee in autumn 2026, with a quarterly charge outside the general attendance-budget figure.
